Risk and Challenge
The Big Bumbles have been participating in a risk and challenge activity this week. Children cannot learn to keep themselves safe if they do not know what risks are. Children only learn about safety by understanding what makes them vulnerable. The children have been taking calculated risks to understand their skills and limitations of their bodies and have been building upon them. The children have tried this activity various times and each time we could see them self-regulate and make judgements for themselves about how to approach the task. Most children wanted to walk straight across the balancing ladder but they soon realised they couldn’t do this without extra help. The children ended up using their hands to support themselves across safely. To increase the challenge we added some height to our ladder bridge so the children had to climb up as well as straight across. Well done everyone!
